Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

Cup of Tea Psychiatry is out of network with all insurance providers except Aetna and Cigna. You are welcome to use your insurance for your care at Cup of Tea Psychiatry if Aetna or Cigna is your insurance provider.

If you have a different insurance provider and have out of network benefits, you can use the benefits calculator below to see if you are eligible for reimbursement for your appointments with me.

In most cases, your insurance will cover your prescription medications and common laboratory tests.

Why do you use a Membership model?

There are numerous reasons why I prefer to dedicate my professional time to clients like you, instead of on lengthy phone calls with insurance companies, negotiating payments and coverage. I believe my focus should be on your well-being. Additionally, safeguarding your privacy is important to me; I don't want to disclose your private information whenever requested by your insurance provider. I firmly believe that you should have the freedom to choose the clinician who best suits your needs and determine the course of your care. In essence, treatment planning should be a collaborative decision between you and your provider, without interference from insurance companies.

When is payment due?

A credit card authorization is done when you schedule your appointment, and the card is charged 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. Appointments can be paid for individually or via pre-paid bundles of appointments. Some clients prefer to pay in advance so that they can focus solely on treatment the day of, or to simplify finances when being seen frequently (short term). If you are interested in prepaid appointments, please inquire. I accept major credit cards.

Are you taking new clients?

Yes! I am taking new clients in the state of Wisconsin.

My first commitment is to existing clients, and I consider their needs before accepting someone new. When I temporarily close to new clients this site will be updated to reflect that.

What is integrative psychiatry?

Integrative psychiatry is a holistic approach to mental health, blending traditional psychiatric methods with alternative therapies. It considers biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors, tailoring treatment plans to the individual. This approach combines medication, lifestyle adjustments, nutrition, and therapeutic techniques, fostering collaboration between patients and providers for a personalized mental health journey.

Is 'integrative' the same as 'alternative'?

Integrative clinicians use the best of what Western medicine offers alongside evidence-based alternative therapies. Alternative healers avoid use of Western medicine entirely.

As an integrative clinician, why do you prescribe conventional medicines?

Conventional medicines sometimes are the fastest way to relieve symptoms while your body and brain heal. Sometimes, medicine serves a temporary role, providing important support while you work on therapy or nutritional changes help you heal. In some cases, prescriptions really are the most effective treatment and other modalities serve more of a supporting role. My goals are to get you feeling better as quickly as possible, to promote meaningful healing, and then to sustain good health long term. Prescription medicine, used wisely, supports those goals.
